Love, Simon Movie Review: A Coming Out Reflection
A solicitous, sweet, and affectious story. This is a reflection to the individuals who are closeted and those who already came out. When you watch it, you will realize and reflect on the story of closeted teenager named Simon.
Love, Simon is a movie adaptation based on the book Simon vs Homo Sapiens Agenda written by Becky Albertalli. The film follows the life of Simon, who’s in love with a faceless mystery boy named Blue while being blackmailed by his obnoxious classmate and threatening to out him if he doesn't help to go out with his best friend.

This film tackles the struggles and experiences of a closeted teenage gay. Simon seeks attention to a same closeted mysterious boy online on which he frees himself, someone who understands him. He's totally oblivious on what he has become and is afraid to tell everyone that he is gay. Simon has a loving family and close-knit friends who gets along with him all the time but he can't express the fire burning inside his heart.

The plot thickens when his classmate leaked the screenshots of their conversations. He was forced out to come out, and confessed to his family about his identity.
A tearjerking scene happened when his dad accepted him as gay, and regardless of who he is as a person, his father is still proud of him.
Even though he lied and broke the trust, his friends are always there to stay and understand him.
The movie is very timely and considerable to the LGBTQ communities, especially to the closeted individuals who are facing the same experience as Simon. This is important to us: to know on what we can have and what we can be.
As I reflected on the story of Simon, we may have different stories but we have the same issues. I came out when I was in college, afraid of what others will tell about me. I did not change myself nor my wardrobe, but I stood up for who I am, accepted all the rejections, and just be myself.
Furthermore, the film is not a cliché and typical gay romance like Call me By Your Name or Carol. This is a story of acceptance, trust and unconditional love. Love, Simon defines the meaning of a great love story.
